2029-09-10 - Great day at the Hatchery

Ted - after a great day!
(Thanks Al for the photo)

The forecast was for light and building in the afternoon.  Blaine went to wash his van.  Others went shopping.  Kent wanted to go to the Hatchery and wait.  That was the right call.

Blaine Brad and I got to the Hatchery a few minutes after Kent and Harold.  Kent and Harold already had their equipment off the truck.

After looking at the water, I decided to go with my 5.5m wing.

I was first on the water, and found the 5.5 to be too big, but still manageable.  I should have gone in right away and switched to my 4.5, but I kept going.  It was a little rough going upwind, but downwind was easy, and I had lots of fun doing S turns on the far side.

Kent, Blaine and Brad were out on their 4.5's and then 3.2's.

Ross sailed up with his kite to sail with us for a while, but timed it just as the majority of us were in for lunch.  Darn!

Brad!

Jim Mudry winged up to join us but missed the crew and sailed back down to the event site.   Dale winged through the group a few times and was ripping the swell up.   I didn't see him but was told Bruce sailed through the hatchery at Mach 2 on an up wind journey.

Al, Harold and Vadim had a great day windsurfing!  Harold was on his 4.7 and 99l board, Vadim was on his 5.6 Hucker and Al was on his 4.8.

Cam and Big Air Jim arrived late, but both had a great time.  Cam was on a 4.2 wing.  Jim said he had the best day of foiling ever!  He said it was magic! He would go around his jibe and just grab the boom on the other side and foil out of it!  He was just stoked when I talked to him after he got off the water.

Harold!

Kent's favorite part of the day was when he, Blaine, Brad, Cam, and I were all way riding the same wave together.  He said he thought it was crowded - but then realized it was all the Alberta Group.  Fun times sailing close to your friends on a big swell!

We sailed until after 5:00.  We were all exhausted!  We sat around for a couple of hours de-rigging.  Jim Mudry and Cam's friend Kit joined us.  Lots of stories, and lots of advice from Jim!

When we eventually got moving, we decided to go to Ferment for supper.  The meal was excellent.  They had a live band playing outside, so when we were done, I stayed to listen for a while!  Really enjoyable.

Back at the condo, we watched the final of SailGP.  The last race was pretty exciting with GBR overtaking Australia on the last upwind leg and then holding them off for the wind.

It was a REALLY late night.  We were all in bed by 10:30.  Great Day!
